Monday, February 06, 2012 5:39:48 PM Judge Shoots Down Schweitzer’s Line-item Vetoes A Helena judge said Monday that Gov. Brian Schweitzer's vetoes of some local infrastructure spending were unconstitutional.
Schweitzer responded by calling the decision "a sad day for Montana" by restricting the ability of the governor to intervene in legislative spending. Schweitzer said a decision whether to appeal would come later.

Brian Schweitzer has appointed a former labor leader to be the next commissioner over political ethics and campaign complaints. The Democratic governor announced Monday that he had selected Jim Murry over three others recommended by legislative leaders to be commissioner of political practices. Murry was executive secretary of the Montana State AFL-CIO from 1968 to 1991. He was recommended by Democratic legislative leaders, as was Susan Witte, a Democrat active in political campaigns. Monday, February 06, 2012 4:40:32 PM Wild Horse Bighorn Sheep Successfully Relocated A total of 49 sheep captured on Wild Horse Island last week have been safely released in the Tendoy Mountains south of Dillon. The sheep from Wild Horse will bolster an existing herd of 40-50 sheep in the Tendoys. The sheep capture began last Thursday, when 21 sheep were captured on Wild Horse Island, processed, and then hauled to the Tendoys. On Friday, 8 more sheep were captured and transported. Delorme moved to Whitefish when he was 9 years old and grew up on Big Mountain. He’s now sponsored and appearing in some pretty epic film segments.

Monday, February 06, 2012 4:11:35 PM Public Hearing for Growth Policy Updates on Feb. 15 There will be a public meeting regarding changes made to the Flathead County Growth Policy as part of a yearlong process to update the document.
During the meeting, scheduled for Feb. 15 at 6 p.m., members of the public will have the opportunity to comment on the updates before the Flathead County Planning Board makes its decision on whether to recommend the changes before the document is passed along to the Flathead County Commission.

Monday, February 06, 2012 3:59:49 PM No Horse Racing at 2012 Northwest Montana Fair Due to a lack of funding, there will be no horse racing at the 2012 Northwest Montana Fair and Rodeo.
According to Flathead County Fairgrounds Manager Mark Campbell, the Kalispell Turf Club decided against horse racing this year after weighing the program’s costs and revenues “very carefully.” The state Board of Horse Racing would not provide monetary support to help offset costs, Campbell said in a prepared statement.
