Panel Discusses Importance and Challenges of Energy Efficiency
At an energy conference in Kalispell last week, four panelists from the Flathead Valley discussed the importance and challenges of implementing energy-efficiency programs and upgrades, particularly among low- and fixed-income residents. The NW Energy Coalition, a clean energy policy advocacy association, held its semiannual conference on May 18 at the Red Lion Hotel.

With the days getting longer and warmer, it’s time to start thinking about getting outside and on the water. And the West Shore State Park is one of the best spots to do both along Flathead Lake. Located south of Lakeside along U.S. Highway 93, the park also features a newly rebuilt boat ramp that will improve access for the public.
My Journey Through Culinary School
It was a sunny Monday, around 12:55 p.m., and I was pulling into the college parking lot – just five minutes away from my first culinary class at FVCC. Little did I know, I was about to walk into the introduction of my new life for the next two years. I was the last one into the classroom full of eager faces. At the front sat a woman and a man. Both of them wore serious faces. I knew instantly who they were – Hillary Ginepra and Howard Karp, my new culinary instructors.

1:05 p.m. A one gallon gas can was stolen from a Martin City man. He believes the local children have it. 11:58 p.m. A local boy sent numerous text messages to random Arizona cell phones claiming to have “hid the body.” Arizona law enforcement contacted local law enforcement who then discovered that the 15-year-old got the prank from television show "Tosh.0."
Lakeside Food Bank Readies for Big Move
LAKESIDE – There are a lot of reasons why Leslie Knuth is excited for the West Shore Food Bank's move into a new building this summer, but one stands above the rest. “We're going to have straight walls,” Knuth, the food bank’s director, said. “And everyone laughs at me when I say it, but you try doing inventory with these walls!”
Credit Where Credit is Due
As a former small-town journalist, I know that one major role of the news-media – especially in a small community like ours – is to “herald” the outstanding citizens who make this valley the wonderful place that it is. I was disappointed in a recent article that failed to accomplish just that.
